Smart Orchard System Earns Top 8 Spot at BGA Hackathon with Blockchain-Powered Innovation
Kuala Lumpur, July 16, 2025 — At Malaysia Blockchain Day 2025, the local smart agriculture project Smart Orchard System (SOS), developed by a Malaysian team, was named one of the Top 8 winners of the $100,000 BGA × Masverse Joint Fund Hackathon, showcasing the transformative potential of blockchain in agricultural digitalization.

Unlike traditional agricultural systems, Smart Orchard System deeply integrates Internet of Things (IoT) with blockchain technology, creating a trackable, measurable, and trustworthy smart orchard management platform. From soil moisture to climate fluctuations, every data point is captured in real-time by sensors and uploaded to a blockchain ledger — forming an immutable record system. This not only enhances farmers’ control over crop growth conditions but also allows investors, buyers, and even consumers to fully understand the journey of produce from field to table.
Notably, the system is complemented by a dedicated user-facing app — Smart Orchard System (Viewer) — enabling users to easily monitor the health, growth cycle, and yield predictions of every single tree. This marks a practical leap from the concept of “smart agriculture” to real-world application.

The hackathon was co-organized by nonprofit Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA) and blockchain company Masverse, aiming to discover blockchain-powered solutions to real-world challenges. Divided into a Student Track and a Real-World Developer Track, Smart Orchard System was named one of the Top 8 in the latter. It now stands a chance to win up to $20,000 in funding, and may also be invited to present at Web3Oscar 2025 in UN City, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Other standout entries included GiveHope, GreenPOS, and PowerChain, covering fields such as donation transparency, green energy, and community collaboration — all reflecting the diverse social potential of blockchain technology.
The selection of Smart Orchard System represents not only a technological breakthrough, but also signals Malaysia’s emerging role in global sustainable agriculture and tech-driven innovation.
